Literary works in Chinese and English literatures will be considered both to indicate issues common to translation and to identify strategies that are typically used by professional translators to address these issues.

By examining the defining features of genres and sub-genres, students gain valuable knowledge about literary and cultural contexts, while at the same time developing interpretive strategies for reading texts in terms of their larger social significance.
