Course Descriptions

This course compares TV programming strategies, practice, sources, and services at local (China), national (Hong Kong) and international levels; network, public, and independent broadcast and cable operations; audience research; and schedule development. The course analyses the management of television within the new information technology environment. Emphasis is focused on the evolution of various programme types, planning of programme formats, and creation of programme ideas. It is designed to give students an understanding of the contextual factors that affect the structures, policies, programming, and management practices of various telecommunications industries. The intersections of broadcasting, cable television, information communication technology will be examined. The function of telecommunications in providing new communications products and information services will also be covered. Additionally, programming strategies, schedule development, and audience research will be discussed within the parameters of this course.
